Description of Sea Cadets and League Cadets
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and League Corps are youth programs for young Americans male and female, ages 11 through 17. The League Cadets is for ages 11-13 and the Sea Cadets is for ages 13-17. Youth may enroll at age 17 and continue during their 18th year. The objectives of the programs are to develop an interest and skill in basic seamanship and seagoing skills and to teach patriotism, courage, self-reliance, teamwork, leadership, and high moral and ethical standards. Cadets train aboard Navy and Coast Guard ships and at various military bases around the U.S. The Cadets are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms appropriately marked with Naval Sea Cadet Corps and League Cadet insignia. These programs afford equal opportunity for participation to all American youth without regard to race, color, religion or sex in a anti-drug and anti-gang environment. Training courses are held during the summer and during school breaks at locations around the country. Basic recruit training for 10-14 days is the first training requirement and then advanced training schools are available. Some examples of advanced training schools are listed below.
